In this little treasure, Thich Nhat Hahn, the renowned Zen monk, offers timeless insight into the nature of real love.
With simplicity, warmth and directness, he explores the four key aspects of love as described in the Buddhist tradition: loving - kindness, compassion, joy and freedom — explaining how to experience them in our day-to-day lives.
In True Love — A Practice for Awakening the Heart, Thich Nhat Hahn also emphasizes that in order to love in a real way, we must first lean how to be fully present in our lives, and he offers simple techniques from the Buddhist tradition that anyone can use to establish the conditions of love.
As he explains, “training is needed in order to love properly; and to be able to give happiness and joy, you must practice deep looking directed toward the person you love. Because if you do not understand this person, you cannot love properly. Understanding is the essence of love.”
In the book's concluding section, he tells how love can help us heal our pain, fear, and habitual negativity.
A gift of love and a keepsake to be cherished, True Love — A Practice for Awakening the Heart is a quintessential guide to loving, and it describes many simple and direct ways in which we can practice authentic love in our everyday lives.
A very good thing!
