I like the artist standing up for himself—believing in his own word no matter what anyone may say about it.

— Georgia O’Keeffe

Perfect for holiday giving, this stocking stuffer-sized book is a unique volume that truly has something for everyone, from the art novice to fans of Georgia O'Keeffe alike

— Robert A. Kret, director, Georgia O'Keeffe Museum

Ah, yes, Georgia. You definitely spoke your own mind — in words and work — and never let your times moderate either. Thank goodness!

I am a huge Georgia O'Keeffe fan. Have been since I was a child growing up in the Texas Panhandle, which played a very key role in shaping her iconic style. The endless canvas of land meeting sky — where every sunset was a masterpiece painted along the horizon — made a lasting impression on the young O'Keeffe, who came to teach art to elementary school students. (See image of Train at Night in the Desert to the left. The "desert" was near Canyon, Texas.)

Every time I visit the Georgia O'Keefe Museum in Santa Fe, I always used to ask for the list of O'Keeffe's quotes that were specially selected to complement each exhibit. They would be interspersed among the art and always added so much to the experience.

At times, it was if Georgia was standing next to you commenting about a piece, or the world. I would always try to remember the clever snippets, or add them to the notes I keep on my phone, but I never did a good job of capturing them — and I wanted them all! One time, when I was trying to add one to my phone, a very observant and considerate guard told me I could get a listing of all of the quotes at the reception desk. OMG! So, from then on, that was my first stop when I come into the museum!

And apparently, I was not the only one taken with Georgia's observations and wit. The many inquiries lead to the Museum's publication this year of the first volume of Georgia O'Keeffe  Words l Work, Volume 1!

So, while I heartily recommend you visit the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, you don't have to travel there to get one of these gems, as we are very excited to have them at Pretty Things & Cool Stuff!  Sales of Georgia O'Keeffe Words l Work, Volume 1 will help the Museum present compelling exhibitions, and provide innovate programming for children, families, and adults.

Published by the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, the 48-page Georgia O'Keeffe  Words l Work, Volume 1 combines O’Keeffe’s most poignant and memorable words with her iconic works of art in an intimate volume that proves O’Keeffe expressed herself beautifully in paint but was also an eloquent writer.

Throughout her life, she wrote thousands of letters, published catalog statements, and gave many interviews. This intimate volume, with 22 images, including reproduction of O'Keeffe's works in color and black--and-white photos, brings her words together with her iconic images.

The quotes selected for the volume were chosen by the Georgia O’Keefe Museum’s curators and researchers, and also by those who knew the artist personally. Taken largely from interviews and published catalog statements, as well as the thousands of personal letters she wrote to friends and family, O’Keeffe’s words illuminate her innermost thoughts on life, art, the act of creating, and her deep appreciation for the natural world.

Georgia O'Keeffe Words | Works, Volume 1 is the first volume in what will become a series of books bringing together Georgia O’Keefe’s words with her iconic images. Yay!

And if you like this gem, then you definitely will want to check out Ghost Ranch: The Faraway Nearby, Craig Varjabedian's stunning and awarding-winning book of black-and-white photographs from the iconic Ghost Ranch area, Georgia's beloved home. The two books are meant for each other!

Yes. You know you have to have one right now!
