A tombstone manufacturer named Charles H. Pajeau and Robert Pettit, a grain broker at the Chicago Board of Trade, created the popular child construction toy set, Tintertoys, in Evanston, IL in 1914.

Having watched kids play with empty spools of thread and pencils, both gentlemen soon realized that children loved to learn but that rather than being taught, they preferred to figure things out for themselves. This often took the form of taking something apart and putting it back together.

In other words, they ‘loved to tinker’. So, they set out to produce and market the wood construction set they designed after observing the fun their own children had sticking spools and sticks together.

Including the original instruction sheet with list of all 128 parts including several tinker ‘tricks’, this original set is in its original packaging and contains 122 of the original 128 parts.
