"The sensory pleasures of the woods are on display in A Walk in the Forest, a quietly beautiful book written and illustrated by Maria Dek."
— The New York Times Book Review
"Dek's invitation to explore the forest's magic and to leave behind civilization, vehicles, technology — even other people — feels honest and strikingly personal. Her story itself is a journey."
— Publisher's Weekly
The forest comes alive in all its mysterious glory with Maria Dek's charming watercolor images and poetic text in A Walk in the Forest.
This charming picture book is a stunning invitation to discover the woods as a place for both imaginative play and contemplation. Readers are invited to collect pinecones, feathers, or stones; follow the tracks of a deer; or listen to the chirping of birds and the whisper of trees. The rich, evocative watercolor illustrations and sparse text compel one to build a shelter and play hide-and-seek, even to pretend the woods are a jungle.
A Walk in the Forest introduces children to the fauna and flora of the woods. The book speaks to a child's interest in make-believe and treasures of the natural world, and it invites her/him to seek out and experience the many adventures that await in nature.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Living and working in the village of Białowieża, in the middle of the oldest forest in Europe, Polish author and illustrator Maria Dek invites children to her favorite place — the undiscovered world of nature — in the pages of her books. Maria uses the traditional technique of watercolor to create her original, amusing, and expressive illustrations that stir the imagination.
After earning art degrees from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and University of the Arts, London, Maria wrote and illustrated A Walk in the Forest in 2016. It was her first book to be translated to English, and it received a prestigious starred review in Kirkus. She has published four additional books.
Maria conducts illustration workshops for children throughout Europe, and her illustration clients include cultural and educational institutions.
